Ironton has gone 8-2 against Dawson-Bryant recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Fighting Tigers will face off against the Hornets at 5:30 p.m. Ironton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Ironton fell victim to Wheelersburg and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Pirates, falling 10-0. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Fighting Tigers, who until this contest were averaging 3.87 runs allowed.
Meanwhile, Dawson-Bryant entered their tilt with Portsmouth on Tuesday with ten consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 11. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Trojans a 6-0 shutout. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.
Abbie Deeds made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rylee Black, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Izzy Kitts, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Dawson-Bryant's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Ironton, their loss dropped their record down to 18-5.
Ironton's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Fighting Tigers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Dawson-Bryant, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Ironton continue to outrun the ball?
Ironton suffered a grim 11-4 defeat to Dawson-Bryant in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Fighting Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
