Sam Kozak made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. Kozak was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
In other batting news, John Hay let Beau Harris Jr and Kenn Pilier run wild. Harris Jr went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Pilier went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. With that strong performance, Pilier is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. London Raglin also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Saturday Rhodes sidestepped Valley Forge for a 15-13 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rams.
Like John Hay, Rhodes also got a great game from a two-way player: Luis Correa. He pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Correa was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs and one double. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two).
In other batting news, Roberto Benitez was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Cesar Rios was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Rhodes always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valley Forge only posted an OBP of .390.
John Hay's record is now 8-9. As for Rhodes, their record now sits at 14-3.
John Hay suffered a grim 15-1 defeat to Rhodes in their previous meeting back in April. Can John Hay avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
