Cooper Johnson tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Preston Solomon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those RBI were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Henry Thomas Blanke, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Florence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Russellville came tearing into Saturday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 12-11 W against the Jets.
Gunner Sappingon looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Brayden Entrekin was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Ty Willis was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Russellville's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Florence, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
Florence couldn't quite finish off Russellville when the teams last played two weeks ago and fell 4-2. Will Florence have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
