For the first time this season, Saint Ignatius College Prep will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will venture away from home to take on the Aurora Central Catholic Chargers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Saint Ignatius College Prep was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Payton College Prep last Friday. Saint Ignatius College Prep put the hurt on Payton College Prep with a sharp 12-0 victory. The Wolfpack haven't had any issues with the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Katie McClain was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. McClain was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Sarah Fitzgerald and Sophia Fredericks did most of the damage at the plate: Fitzgerald scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Fredericks went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Fitzgerald a new career-high. Samantha Steinhofer was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Saint Ignatius College Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Payton College Prep only posted a batting average of .200.
Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Aurora Central Catholic ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Joliet West 6-4.
Corina Miller spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Aurora Central Catholic let Morgan Vaghy and Ashley Moore run wild. Vaghy got on base in three of her six plate appearances with one home run and one stolen base, while Moore scored a run while going 3-for-5. That home run marked the first that Vaghy launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Gambro, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her six plate appearances.
The victory got Saint Ignatius College Prep back to even at 1-1. As for Aurora Central Catholic, their record is now 7-2.
Saint Ignatius College Prep came up short against Aurora Central Catholic in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 9-6. Can Saint Ignatius College Prep avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
