The Bonanza Bengals couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 39-18 walloping at the hands of Western on Tuesday. Bonanza was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-5.
Western's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Qaaima Taylor led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 11 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Taylor has scored at least 25% of Western's points. Azariah Boxley was another key contributor, scoring 9 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
Bonanza's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Western, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Bonanza will be playing in front of their home fans against Amplus Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Amplus Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Tuesday. Western won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Del Sol at 6:30 p.m. on November 29th.
