While it was all tied up 25-25 at halftime, the West Wendover Wolverines were not quite the Elko Indians's equal in the second half on Thursday. West Wendover was the victim of a rough 64-43 loss at the hands of Elko. West Wendover found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post ten fewer assists than your opponent.
Adryan Carlos and Osvaldo Carrillo certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Carlos scored 21 points along with 8 rebounds, while Carrillo scored 14 points along with 7 rebounds. Teague Neilson was another key contributor, scoring 2 points.
Elko's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Josiah Tinkorang led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and 10 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Bernard Fesenmaier, who scored 13 points.
West Wendover's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Elko, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
West Wendover will head out on the road to face off against Lowry at 6:29 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Lowry is ranked 51st, while West Wendover is ranked 62nd). Elko won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Reno at 8:00 p.m. on December 1st. Hopefully Reno focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday.
