The Seymour Owls are taking a road trip to challenge the Columbus North Bull Dogs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Seymour has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
While Seymour's victory against Madison wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Owls sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Cubs on Thursday. While the Owls didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Delaney Warren was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.
Meanwhile, Columbus North scored the most runs they've had this season on Monday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of Whiteland by a score of 14-13. Even though they lost, the Bull Dogs' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 7 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Payton Morris was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off five hits. Morris was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5.
In other batting news, Lily Retz was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Miley McClellan was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.
This is the second loss in a row for Columbus North and nudges their season record down to 1-4. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Seymour, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-1.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Seymour hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. However, it's not like Columbus North struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Seymour came out on top in a nail-biter against Columbus North when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Owls since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
