Lawrence County and West Marion are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2016, but likely not for long. The Lawrence County Cougars will challenge the West Marion Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lawrence County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Lawrence County barely beat Bogue Chitto the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Lawrence County beat Bogue Chitto on Saturday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 13-1. The Cougars have beaten the Bobcats the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bobcats has come to flipping the script.

Weston Dunaway was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.
In other batting news, Lawrence County got a massive performance out of Caden Case, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Lawrence County is 2-1 when Case posts three or more RBI, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was LaFreddrick Harris, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Lawrence County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, West Marion was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They lost 15-5 to Sumrall.
West Marion saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trace McDonald, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
West Marion's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Lawrence County, their record is now 3-4.
West Marion's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lawrence County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .360. It's a different story for West Marion, though, as they've only averaged .252. Will they be able to contain Lawrence County's hitters?
Lawrence County came out on top in a nail-biter against West Marion when the teams last played back in February of 2023, sneaking past 12-11. Will Lawrence County repeat their success, or does West Marion have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
