Football Recap: Camp Point Central Starts Season with Victory at Home

Camp Point Central gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They breezed past the West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] Cougars to the tune of 50-8. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Panthers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 40th, while the Cougars are ranked 286th).

Camp Point Central had a senior duo take command as Curtis Rigg rushed for 118 yards and two scores on only six carries and Jasper Flesner rushed for 48 yards and three TDs. Flesner also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing one fumble and making five total tackles. Marco Rodriguez was in the mix as well, providing Camp Point Central with one touchdown.

Camp Point Central was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 245 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 185 rushing yards in 14 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Coming up, Camp Point Central is taking a road trip to square off against Greenfield/Northwestern at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs], they will host Routt Catholic/Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
