The Windsor Wizards will head out on the road to face off against the Ponderosa Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Windsor comes in on six and Ponderosa on five.
Windsor had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They didn't even let Centaurus onto the board and left with a 48-0 victory on Saturday. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Windsor had established a 28 point advantage.
Samuel Cooper had a dynamite game for Windsor, rushing for 213 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. Cooper's longest rush was for an incredible 91 yards. Mikey Munn was in the mix as well, providing Windsor with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Ponderosa can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent game two weeks ago. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 45-0 victory over Bear Creek. Given Ponderosa's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Bear Creek is ranked 85th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sean Davis was a one-man wrecking crew for Ponderosa as he rushed for 154 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Davis has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Mervin, who gained 138 total yards and a touchdown.
Windsor pushed their record up to 9-2 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 48.7 points per game. As for Ponderosa, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Windsor has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 275.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Ponderosa struggles in that department as they've been averaging 188.4 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches. Windsor and Ponderosa were almost perfectly matched up in their previous matchup back in September of 2019, but Windsor suffered an agonizing 24-23 defeat. Can Windsor avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
