Meridian extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-2. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Shawnee Redskins. The Bobcats were not able to make up for their defeat to the Redskins from their previous meeting back in March of 2025.
Brynn Gibson was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and seven unearned) runs off seven hits. Gibson was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jayla Meeks was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kiara Lane, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
As for Shawnee, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-3. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Like Meridian, Shawnee also got a great game from a two-way player: Addilyn Clark. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Clark has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madalyn Schuster, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Adyson Choate was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Meridian is set to challenge their familiar foe Cobden at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Shawnee will take on rival Joppa-Maple Grove at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
