Baseball Recap: Lakewood Wins Going Away Against Lejeune

Lakewood barely beat Lejeune the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lakewood Leopards blew past the Lejeune Devil Pups 8-2 on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Leopards in their matchups with the Devil Pups: they've now won five in a row.

Rylan Godbold and Caleb Neal were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Godbold struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs but no hits. Meanwhile, Neal tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave Godbold a new career-low. At the plate, Godbold went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI, while Neal scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-3. That triple marked the first that Godbold hit this season.

In other batting news, Reed Ammons was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was his first of the season. Cooper Ivey was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Lakewood's record now sits at 2-3.

Looking ahead, Lakewood will be playing in front of their home fans against Red Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Red Springs is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Lejeune, they are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game this season: they will challenge North Duplin at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
