1A Region 1 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Falkner moved up to 187 from 219 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 1A Region 1. The Eagles were able to make the jump by beating Coldwater 21-14.
Falkner was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in the league. Earlier in the week, Ben Ashley's team defeated the Cougars 21-14.
Vardaman's dynamic duo of Cody Jenkins and Ta West proved tough for Byers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Jenkins threw for 147 yards and two touchdowns and West had 64 yards receiving. James Avant helped Vardaman's passing attack out by catching one ball for 59 yards.
Zachary Tybor was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 236 yards on 30 carries as Tupelo Christian Prep defeated the Lions. Tyler Beard also contributed to the rushing game with 28 yards on the ground.
6-foot-1 quarterback Blake Stacy of Biggersville is the league leader in passing yards this season with 761. He has also thrown 12 touchdowns. On the ground, the Eagles' Jeramie Lawrence has rushed for 777 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Avant. The Vardaman star has 15 catches for 344 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Lions take on Falkner. At the moment, Biggersville is in sixth, while the Eagles are in first.
Thrasher took down Ronnie Lawson's team 35-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
