Covington is 2-7 against North Montgomery since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Trojans will be playing at home against the Chargin' Chargers at 5:30 p.m. Covington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Covington didn't have quite enough to beat Parke Heritage and fell 2-1. The game marked the Trojans' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Kyven Hill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Covington saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaden Smith, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, North Montgomery strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came out on top against Western Boone by a score of 8-3. Eight seems to be a good number for the Chargin' Chargers as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
North Montgomery also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Cade Cole gave up only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits.
At the plate, Tucker Hinds and Aiden Ambriz-Cruz did most of the damage at the plate: Hinds went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Ambriz-Cruz got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Those two doubles gave Hinds a new career-high. Crew Cole was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
North Montgomery's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Covington, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-2.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Covington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like North Montgomery struggles in that department as they've averaged .365. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Covington came up short against North Montgomery in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 6-3. Will the Trojans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
