Clay County had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 14-17 to make it four. They fell 5-2 to the Corbin Redhounds. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Redhounds this season, with their most recent defeat being a 14-4 loss back in April.
As for Corbin, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-19 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.
For Corbin's part, Macie Santos was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Santos has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kaili Sanders was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
As of now, neither Clay County nor Corbin have any future games scheduled.
