The Monarch Coyotes waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They enjoyed a cozy 71-52 win over Boulder. Given Monarch's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Panthers are ranked 156th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tyler Carlson was his usual excellent self, scoring 16 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Laverty, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Despite the defeat, Boulder had strong showings from Cole Morrow, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds, and Kyle Blauch, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Morrow continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Lake Smith, who scored six points along with six rebounds and four blocks.
Monarch's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.8 points per game. As for Boulder, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-12.
