5A District 11 recap Oct. 9, 2012
Estero moved up to 232 from 268 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A District 11. The Wildcats climbed the ranks as a result of a 20-3 win over Cape Coral.
East Lee County was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. The Jaguars vanquished Mariner 49-7 earlier in the week.
Eamon Smart was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 144 yards as the Seahawks lost to Estero. Rasheen Bailey also contributed to the rushing game with 17 yards on the ground.
Gaymon was the best wideout in 5A District 11 this week as Cape Coral fell to Rich Dombroski's team. Gaymon tallied six receptions for 111 yards. Bailey helped Cape Coral's passing attack out by catching two balls for 11 yards.
Winfred Ward put up the best numbers through the air as East Lee County defeated the Tritons. He finished with six completions for 129 yards and one touchdown. Ward's favorite target this week was Omaris Tolbert, who caught two passes for 60 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Christian Phillips and Eric McFadden the Wildcats have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Phillips leads the league in passing with 1039 yards, while McFadden has rushed for 826 yards this season. Larry Gary's team's Gaymon leads the league in receiving yards with 332 on 24 catches.
Estero made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,921 from 4,790. The improvement came about via a 20-3 victory over the Seahawks last week.
