Independent School recap Nov. 7, 2012
St. Sebastian's School extended the longest winning streak in Independent School this week by beating Groton School, 34-0. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Arrows.
Buckingham Browne & Nichols was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Thayer Academy. The Knights came in at 12 in the state poll after placing at number 55 last week.
The Tigers' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jack Becker threw for 246 yards and Aaron Gilmer had 71 yards receiving. On the ground Gilmer chipped in 41 yards. Jordan Allen helped Thayer Academy's passing attack out by catching three balls for 48 yards.
Thayer Academy's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Tigers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Becker has thrown for 1524 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, while Bryan Vieira has 28 catches for 602 yards. Gilmer leads the league in rushing with 481 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Lawrence Academy and Buckingham Browne & Nichols. The Spartans enters the contest ranked 21st in the state, while John Papas' team ranks 12th.
Two of the top units in Independent School will face off this week when Thayer Academy takes on St. Sebastian's School. Jeff Toussaint's team's offense has recorded 203 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Robert Souza's team has permitted only 89 on the year.
Brooks moved up to 67 from 257 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Brooks climbed the ranks as a result of losing to Noble & Greenough 49-26.
