Basketball Recap: Bishop Machebeuf Takes a Loss

Bishop Machebeuf lost against Gilpin County back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Bishop Machebeuf Buffaloes lost to the Gilpin County Eagles at home by a 50-32 margin. The Buffaloes' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Despite the loss, Bishop Machebeuf saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Aubrey Cichos went 9 for 20 on her way to 18 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. Those 18 points gave Cichos a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Penelope Mikita, who posted four points.

Even though they lost, Bishop Machebeuf was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Faith Ramsey continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Gilpin County, going 5 of 9 on her way to 17 points in addition to seven steals and five boards. Ramsey is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Annabelle Aloel, who had four points.

Bishop Machebeuf's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Gilpin County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.

Bishop Machebeuf will take on Lyons at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lyons will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Bishop Machebeuf surely won't give up without a fight. As for Gilpin County, they will challenge Estes Park at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Gilpin County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
