The Manzano Monarchs were the 46-27 winner over the Del Norte Knights when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Manzano took a 45-28 bruising from Del Norte on Tuesday. Manzano has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Several Monarchs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hen?kaiazia Shorter, who scored three points along with six steals. Shorter hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaria Gomez, who scored five points along with eight rebounds.
Del Norte was led to victory by Juliana Baca and Violet Goudeau. Baca scored nine points along with seven rebounds, while Goudeau dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Lynsey Becenti, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Manzano's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Del Norte, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Manzano is on the road again on Wednesday and play against Valley at 7:00 p.m. on December 13th. Hopefully Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 last Friday. Del Norte will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on St. Michael's at 7:00 p.m. on January 11, 2024.
