Daniel is 2-8 against Palmetto since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Lions will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. Daniel has given up an average of 9.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Daniel fell victim to Blue Ridge and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Tigers, falling 11-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Lions' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, Palmetto got the win against Southside Christian on Monday by a conclusive 16-4. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Halle Tompkins made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple.
In other batting news, Graelyn Adams was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Emma Lawson, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Palmetto was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .655. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in seven consecutive contests.
Palmetto is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Daniel, their loss dropped their record down to 6-18.
