Even though the Alexander Cougars have not done well against the Douglas County Tigers recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Alexander had just enough and edged the Tigers out 52-50. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Alexander also won the last time the pair played back in January.
Alexander found their leader in underclassman Nimah Ibidunni, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Isabella Italiano was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six assists.
Douglas County lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Reagan Freeman, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Freeman has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyla Neal, who scored 12 points.
Alexander has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season. As for Douglas County, they now have a losing record at 10-11.
Alexander will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Raiders at 6:00 p.m. East Paulding has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 9. As for Douglas County, they will head out on the road to face off against the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Langston Hughes presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Tigers in Georgia (the Panthers are ranked 29th, while the Tigers are ranked 213th).
