The Piedmont Panthers will challenge the Parkwood Wolf Pack at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Piedmont is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
Piedmont is returning to their home field after beating West Stanly on theirs, despite the fact West Stanly has dominated at home this season. The Panthers came out on top against the Colts by a score of 5-1 on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.
Jailyn Thomas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tara Deese, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sarah Belk, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Parkwood's offense. They fell 3-0 to Central Academy on Monday. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Wolf Pack's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Parkwood also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Chloe Purgason gave up just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.
Parkwood's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Piedmont, their victory bumped their record up to 14-5.
Parkwood's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Piedmont has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Parkwood, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Piedmont keep running through batters, or will the Wolf Pack buck the trend?
Everything went Piedmont's way against Parkwood when the teams last played back in March, as Piedmont made off with a 10-4 win. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Wolf Pack have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
