Zionsville faced Avon in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Eagles put the hurt on the Orioles with a sharp 9-1 victory. Considering the Eagles have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Zionsville got a great performance from Brady Shaw as he struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave Shaw a new career-high.

At the plate, Tyler Hughes was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Jackson Tielker was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Zionsville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Avon only posted a batting average of .043.

Zionsville pushed their record up to 15-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Avon, their loss dropped their record down to 16-8.

Zionsville will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Orioles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
