Weir has won five straight games at home, while Wheeling Park has won five straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. The Red Riders will host the Patriots at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Weir barely beat Brooke the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Red Riders never let the Bruins get on the board and left with a 7-0 win on Tuesday.
Eliza Utt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zoey Spencer, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Wheeling Park is ranked highly in their home state and on Tuesday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Martins Ferry. The Patriots were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Purple Riders. Wheeling Park's victory was all the more impressive since the Purple Riders were averaging only 3.18 runs allowed on the season.
Like Weir, Wheeling Park also got a great game from a two-way player: Harmony Bittner. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits. Bittner was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Ava Harris was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kylah Cunningham, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Wheeling Park now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Weir, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
Wheeling Park's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Weir has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Wheeling Park, though, as they've been averaging 8.9 hits. Given Weir's sizable advantage in that area, the Patriots will need to find a way to close that gap.
Weir came up short against Wheeling Park in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, falling 3-0. Can the Red Riders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
