The Cocoa Beach Minutemen will head out on the road to take on the Eau Gallie Commodores at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cocoa Beach is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Cocoa Beach will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs last Wednesday, then bounced right back against Wheaton Academy on Tuesday. The Minutemen put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 11-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Minutemen, who have now won seven contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Parker Cress and Cooper Janke were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Cress pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Janke pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two). At the plate, Cress went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Janke went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Gant Ramsey and Garrett Harper did most of the damage at the plate: Ramsey went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Harper went 1-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs Harper has posted since back in March.
Cocoa Beach always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Eau Gallie's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of Wheaton Academy by a score of 8-7.
Deklyn Tynan made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Conor O'Keefe also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Cocoa Beach's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Eau Gallie, their loss dropped their record down to 12-9.
Cocoa Beach beat Eau Gallie 9-4 when the teams last played back in February. Will the Minutemen repeat their success, or do the Commodores have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
