Liberty County waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Savannah Christian and snuck past 46-43. Given Liberty County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while the Raiders are ranked 342nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Johnson pushed their score all the way to 76 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 83-76 hit to the loss column at the hands of Long County.
Johnson's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Joshua Quarterman, who dropped a double-double on 40 points and ten rebounds, and Favion Kirkwood who scored 28 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Quarterman has scored all season.
Liberty County is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Johnson, their loss dropped their record down to 13-10.
Liberty County couldn't quite finish off the Atomsmashers when the teams last played back in January and fell 36-33. Can Liberty County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
