Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only The Simi Valley Pioneers walked away with it. They managed a 40-34 win over Rancho Verde on Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for Simi Valley as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Leading Simi Valley to victory were Jesse Sereno and Brice Hawkins. Sereno threw for 265 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, while Hawkins gained 227 total yards and two touchdowns. Hawkins is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Alex Villalobos made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Simi Valley now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Rancho Verde, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-3.
Simi Valley will look to defend their home field on Friday against Crean Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Crean Lutheran is ranked 153rd, while Simi Valley is ranked 150th). Rancho Verde does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
