The Payson Longhorns lost against the Winslow Bulldogs back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Payson took a 45-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of Winslow.
Payson lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Hannah Sarnowski, who scored 14 points along with four steals. Lizzy White was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Jauslyn Nells was the offensive standout of the game as she dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Belone, who scored seven points along with six assists and five steals.
Payson's defeat dropped their record down to 15-7. As for Winslow, their win bumped their record up to 5-14.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Payson won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Crismon at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. Crismon will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 213th, while Payson is ranked 73rd). As for Winslow, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Show Low at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Show Low focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday.
