The Mabel-Canton Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They took a hard 75-61 fall against Lyle/Pacelli. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Monday (55), Mabel-Canton still had to take the loss.
Isaac Underbakke and Cayden Tollefsrud certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Underbakke scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and five assists, while Tollefsrud scored 22 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Tollefsrud is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Hayden Erickson was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Mabel-Canton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Mabel-Canton's loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Lyle/Pacelli, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-8.
Mabel-Canton will take on Southland at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Southland's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 16 matchups. As for Lyle/Pacelli, they will head out on the road to face off against Houston at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Houston is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 60.4 points per game.
