Kenzie Delaney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Ridgedale's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brenda Scott, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
While North Baltimore didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Perry on Monday. Considering the Tigers have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Brynlee Schmidt made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Schmidt was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Jessica Trout was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Jayme Zeigler was another key player, earning three runs and two stolen bases.
North Baltimore kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
North Baltimore's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Ridgedale, their record now sits at 6-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Ridgedale has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like North Baltimore struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Ridgedale's way against North Baltimore in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Ridgedale made off with a 14-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rockets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
