Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Southeast Career Tech made sure to put some runs up on the board against Chaparral on Friday. The Roadrunners' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cowboys a 22-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Roadrunners in their matchups with the Cowboys: they've now won five in a row.
Laila Esparza made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four runs, five RBI, and one triple.
In other batting news, Aysia Suyat and Ziana Fernandez did most of the damage at the plate: Suyat went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs, while Fernandez went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Suyat has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Neveah Fuller, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Southeast Career Tech always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .839. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.
Las Vegas' defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Southeast Career Tech, the win got them back to even at 8-8.
Las Vegas might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Southeast Career Tech in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
