Maryvale Prep are taking a road trip to take on the John Carroll Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Maryvale Prep gave up the first runs last Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Carver A&T, sneaking past 6-4.
Maryvale Prep let Reaghan S (2025) and Bettina M (2027) run wild. S (2025) went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and one double, while M (2027) went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Michelina M (2028), who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
Maryvale Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask John Carroll). They never let Perryville get on the board and left with a 12-0 win on Wednesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Patriots with their most commanding win of the season.
Emily Hildt was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, John Carroll got a massive performance out of Kallissa Coats, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Mia Anderson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
The victory made it two in a row for John Carroll and bumps their season record up to 3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Maryvale Prep, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Maryvale Prep hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .364. However, it's not like John Carroll struggles in that department as they've averaged .432. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Maryvale Prep might still be hurting after the 15-3 defeat they got from John Carroll in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can Maryvale Prep avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
