The Appleton North Lightning will venture away from home to take on the Notre Dame Academy Tritons at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Thursday, Appleton North made easy work of Oshkosh West and carried off a 14-4 victory. The Lightning haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Notre Dame Academy). They never let Green Bay Southwest get on the board and left with a 21-0 victory on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Jacob Reineking made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Reineking was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Drew Magnuson was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with six RBI, two triples, and three runs. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Brennen Frelich was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Notre Dame Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .628. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Green Bay Southwest only posted an OBP of .176.
Appleton North's record is now 2-0. As for Notre Dame Academy, their record now sits at 3-1.
Everything went Appleton North's way against Notre Dame Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, as Appleton North made off with a 14-4 victory. Do the Lightning have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tritons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
