Even though the Tolleson Wolverines scored an imposing 55 points on Monday, the Valley Vista Monsoon still came out on top. Valley Vista walked away with a 66-55 win over Tolleson. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Valley Vista.
It was another big night for Maximus Romero, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that he pulled down eight or more rebounds. Nate Cosio was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds.
Several Wolverines players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jahlil Loyd, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Judah Lancaster, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Valley Vista's win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-11. As for Tolleson, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season.
Valley Vista will square off against Shadow Ridge at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Shadow Ridge has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Tolleson, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Cesar Chavez at 7:00 p.m. Cesar Chavez knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 14 matches -- so hopefully Tolleson likes a good challenge.
