The Commerce Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Athens Christian Eagles at 7:30 a.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Commerce was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 59-55 to Elbert County. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Commerce in their matchups with Elbert County: they've now lost three in a row.
Evan Peters put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 17 points along with eight rebounds. Essien Lockleer was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Meanwhile, Athens Christian came up short against Tallulah Falls on Tuesday and fell 72-60. That's two games in a row now that Athens Christian has lost by exactly 12 points.
Commerce has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season. As for Athens Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-9.
Commerce came up short against Athens Christian in their previous meeting back in January, falling 62-56. Can Commerce avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
