Gibbs is 0-10 against Carter since December of 2021 but things could change on Saturday. The Gibbs Eagles will square off against the Carter Green Hornets at 7:00 p.m. Gibbs is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.7 points per game this season.
Last Saturday, Gibbs was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 54-50 to Anderson County.
Gibbs' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Zack Turner, who went 9-for-18 to rack up 22 points and five boards, and Lee Wolosik, who posted nine points and three steals. That was a full 44% of Gibbs' points, marking the sixth time in a row Turner has had more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Brady Hughes, who put up five points.
Meanwhile, Carter hadn't done well against Fulton recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Carter walked away with a 79-72 victory over Fulton. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Green Hornets.
Carter's win came from a few key players Gibbs will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Chris Cowan, who went 7-for-13 on his way to 21 points and six rebounds. Zion Oliver was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 18 points and nine boards.
Carter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.
Gibbs' loss dropped their record down to 13-17. As for Carter, their record now sits at 24-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Gibbs has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 27.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Carter struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.2 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Gibbs ended up a good deal behind Carter in their previous meeting back in January, losing 83-66. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Cowan, who went 5-for-11 en route to 23 points and five assists. Now that Gibbs knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
