Calallen is a perfect 4-0 against Zapata since November of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wildcats will face off against the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Calallen's win against Tuloso-Midway wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wildcats had just enough and edged out the Warriors & Cherokees 30-27. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since August 30, 2024.

Calallen's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Connor Klostermann, who threw for 180 yards and one TD, and also rushed for 37 yards and one score. 92 of Klostermann's passing yards were hauled in by Drayson Gamez.
Meanwhile, Zapata waltzed into their matchup on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They blew past the Pirates, posting a 48-21 victory. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since November 6, 2020, but that streak is no more.
Calallen better keep an eye on Jay Solis. He was instrumental in Zapata's win, rushing for 160 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only five carries, while also picking up 122 receiving yards and one score. Solis' longest rush was for an impressive 64 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Ryan Solis was another key player, throwing for 124 yards and three TDs while completing 85.7% of his passes.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Zapata proved: they limited Hidalgo Early College to a paltry two yards per carry. The Hawks didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 12.7.
Calallen's record is now 6-2. As for Zapata, their record now sits at 6-1.
Everything came up roses for Calallen against Zapata in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 42-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
