The Mountain View Mountain Lions lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Monday was a bit more commanding. They suffered a tough 68-44 loss at the hands of Mead. While losing is never fun, Mountain View can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 198th, while the Mavericks are ranked 42nd).
When it comes to explaining why Mountain View lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tyson Mares-Benz. Despite the final result, he scored 13 points along with two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Bradey Messinger, who scored ten points.
Mountain View struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Mead pulled down 13 offensive rebounds.
Leading Mead to victory were Averey Baucom and Matthew Angelo. Baucom scored 16 points along with two steals, while Angelo scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. It was the first time this season that Baucom scored 15 or more points. Dominic McLawrence was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds.
Mountain View has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Mead, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.
Mountain View won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on January 30th. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 15 consecutive losses for Fort Morgan and three for the Mountain Lions. Mead is on the road again on Wednesday and plays the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st. Hopefully Greeley West focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 last Saturday.
