The Argonaut Mustangs will face off against the Chavez Titans at 10:45 a.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Chavez will be up against a hot Argonaut squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Argonaut was the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over Rio Americano on Thursday.
Makayla Davis was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Catie Strieff, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chavez). Everything went their way against Johansen on Tuesday as Chavez made off with a 20-3 win. While the Titans didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-15-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Natalia Dias made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Dias was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Chavez let Alexyz Rico and Paulina Sanchez run wild. Rico went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs, while Sanchez went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those hits were Rico's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Nicole Sanchez, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Chavez hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Johansen struck out six times.
The victory made it two in a row for Chavez and bumps their season record up to 5-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Argonaut, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Argonaut has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Chavez struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
