The Johnsburg Skyhawks will face off against the Boylan Catholic Titans at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Boylan Catholic will be up against a hot Johnsburg squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Skyhawks came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against Dakota. Three seems to be a good number for the Skyhawks as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
The team relied heavily on Dom Vallone, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. He also put up two doubles, which were his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Boylan Catholic posted their closest victory since March 18th on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Marian Central Catholic 5-3. The victory continues a trend for the Titans in their matchups with the Hurricanes: they've now won four in a row.
Owen Scandroli looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Boylan Catholic is 2-1 when Scandroli allows one or fewer earned runs, but 2-5 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Anthony Scalise was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Mott, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Johnsburg pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Boylan Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Johnsburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Boylan Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
