The Fort Lauderdale Flying L will head out to take on the Cypress Bay Lightning at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Fort Lauderdale is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Fort Lauderdale will bounce into Monday's matchup after beating McArthur, who they had gone 0-5 against in their five prior meetings. Fort Lauderdale walked away with a 6-1 victory over McArthur on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Flying L's.
Jackson Hirsch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up ten Ks. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in February.
On the hitting side, Nathaniel Greene was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake DelNegri, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Cypress Bay won against Western on Tuesday with five runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. Cypress Bay skirted past ABF Academy 5-3.
Gabriel Tovar looked comfortable as he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Santiago Sanchez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Cypress Bay has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. Fort Lauderdale's record is now 4-7-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Fort Lauderdale has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cypress Bay struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Fort Lauderdale suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Cypress Bay in their previous meeting back in February of 2017. Can Fort Lauderdale avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
