The Jacksonville Golden Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Gadsden City Titans at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Jacksonville came tearing into Friday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points) and they left with even more momentum. They really took it to Faith Christian for the full four quarters, racking up a 75-39 win on the road. Given Jacksonville's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Faith Christian is ranked 295th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Devin Barksdale was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with 3 steals. The game was his fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Nixon, who scored 10 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
Meanwhile, Gadsden City had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Sylacauga 67-27 at home.
Jacksonville's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Gadsden City, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Jacksonville strolled past Gadsden City in their previous matchup back in December of 2021 by a score of 79-64. The rematch might be a little tougher for Jacksonville since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
