The North Marion Huskies had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They walked away with a 61-49 win over Robert C. Byrd. That's another feather in the cap for North Marion, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
North Marion's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brooklynn Jackson, who scored 17 points along with five assists and four steals. Another player making a difference was Meya Kotsko, who scored 14 points along with five assists and four steals.
Despite the loss, Robert C. Byrd still got an impressive performance from Carleigh Curotz, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Martina Howe was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Robert C. Byrd smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Marion only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
North Marion is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Robert C. Byrd, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-7.
North Marion will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Fairmont Senior at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. Fairmont Senior is coming into the match with six straight losses at home, meaning North Marion will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. As for Robert C. Byrd, they will head out on the road to take on Preston at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Preston focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 last Thursday.
