Mattison Kwarta put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Kwarta wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Natalie Newport, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Foothill made easy work of Enterprise on Friday and carried off a 9-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won nine matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Red Bluff, Foothill also got a great game from a two-way player: Elisea Wiegand. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. Wiegand was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, TatiAnna Seuasoukseng was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Malia Webb, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Foothill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Enterprise only posted a batting average of .080.
Foothill pushed their record up to 17-5-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Red Bluff, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9-1.
Red Bluff was able to grind out a solid win over Foothill in their previous matchup back in March, winning 9-6. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
