The Mayer Wildcats suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2023 on Monday. They were beaten by North Valley Christian Academy 73-40. Mayer has struggled against North Valley Christian Academy recently, as their match on Monday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Mayer still got an impressive performance from Earl Williams, who scored 23 points. Williams is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Tanner Carlise was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Bobby Rodriguez was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with three steals for North Valley Christian Academy. Rodriguez hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jethro Maerina, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Mayer has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for North Valley Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mayer will square off against Bagdad at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bagdad is on a four-game streak of home losses, Mayer a 13-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. North Valley Christian Academy will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Lincoln Prep at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. Lincoln Prep has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games.
