The Yuma Outlaws will take on the Platte Valley Broncos at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Yuma is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Yuma is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Haxtun just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Fightin' Bulldogs by a score of 8-6.
Jesus Rodriguez was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Lennox Huwa, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Platte Valley hadn't done well against Strasburg recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Broncos blew past the Indians 12-2. Considering the Broncos have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Hazen Weber made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Platte Valley got a massive performance out of Hudson Flummerfelt, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Dagan Gomez was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Platte Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Strasburg only posted an OBP of .292.
Platte Valley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Yuma, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Yuma has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Platte Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
