The Skyline Coyotes will challenge the Gila Ridge Hawks at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Having struggled with ten losses in a row, Skyline turned things around against Mesa on Thursday. They walked away with a 16-12 win over the Jackrabbits.
Kaleigha Clytus was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Clytus was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-5. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March.
In other batting news, Jordan Seiuli was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Lilliana Leon-Valenzuela, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.
Skyline kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Gila Ridge got the win against McClintock last Tuesday by a conclusive 15-2. Considering the Hawks have won five contests by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Skyline, Gila Ridge also got a great game from a two-way player: Violet Silva. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Silva has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-3. Those home runs were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Gila Ridge got a massive performance out of Tayler Reischmann, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Aimee Cisneros was another key player, scoring four runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
Skyline's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 3-16. As for Gila Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
Skyline might still be hurting after the 22-0 defeat they got from Gila Ridge in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can the Coyotes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
