The Gibson Southern Titans had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Mt. Vernon 40-7 at home. The result was nothing new for Gibson Southern, who have now won six contests by 27 points or more so far this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gibson Southern to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sean DeLong, who rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns. Tanner Boyd was another key contributor, throwing for 196 yards and two touchdowns.
Gibson Southern's victory was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.0 points per game. As for Mt. Vernon, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.
Gibson Southern will head out on the road to face off against Washington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Washington will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 236th, while Gibson Southern is ranked 32nd). Mt. Vernon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
