Basketball Recap: Rock Canyon Falls Despite Big Games from Alyssa Goode and Brooke Harding

While it was all tied up 19-19 at halftime, Rock Canyon was not quite Highlands Ranch's equal in the second half on Friday. They took a 43-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Highlands Ranch Falcons. The match marked the Jaguars' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Rock Canyon's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Brooke Harding, who went 6-for-11 to rack up 15 points, and Alyssa Goode, who posted 11 points and eight boards. Harding's evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points.

Highlands Ranch's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jayda Rogers led the charge by going 6-for-7 on her way to 13 points and seven rebounds. Rogers is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 60% in the last five games she's played. Ezra Simonich was another key player, going 6-for-14 en route to 12 points in addition to six boards and four steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Rock Canyon and nudges their season record down to 12-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 16-4 Legend (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 82.9% over those games). As for Highlands Ranch, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season.

Coming up, Rock Canyon will be playing at home against Castle View at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rock Canyon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.7 points per game this season. As for Highlands Ranch, they will head out to face off against Legend at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Legend will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Highlands Ranch surely won't give up without a fight.
